On the afternoon of September 15, 2026, Vienna Fashion Week welcomed 1001 Nights, a runway presentation by designer Atena Neuhuber. Created alongside 26 fellow designers of Iranian heritage, the show used fashion as a way to tell a story of resilience and hope. Persian cultural symbols met meticulous tailoring, creating a series of emotional moments throughout the presentation.
A Cinematic Opening to a Persian Story
Rather than beginning with a long series of speeches, the show opened with a short, symbolic film that led the audience straight into the story. The first image showed a book titled Isfahan at Dawn, representing the beginning of a new day in the historic West Asian city.
At the centre of the scene was a woman in traditional dress, seated beside a window with the mythical Simurgh nearby. A well-known figure in Persian culture, the Simurgh is associated with wisdom, protection, rebirth and the strength to overcome adversity.
Filmed from above, the short movie followed a full day in the historic city of Isfahan. Pages turning throughout the film marked each stage of the journey, linking one chapter to the next. From the Garden of Eden, evoking ideas of temptation and the boundaries of freedom, the story moved through a Desert Mirage before arriving at a Royal Banquet.
The final scene showed people gathering over food and conversation, creating a striking contrast with the quiet mood at the beginning. Beneath the imagery was a simple human desire: to live with peace, freedom and a sense of belonging.
Feminine Strength Reimagined in Softness and Structure
Following the film, the runway lights came on, revealing a collection that carried the cultural story into fashion. Atena Neuhuber and 26 female designers explored rich textile materials including soft silk, lace, shimmering details and flowing fringe. With every movement, the garments highlighted the softness and sensuality traditionally associated with feminine beauty.
The most striking detail came from the contrast between different forms within the same look. Flowing fabrics wrapped gently around the body, while stronger elements brought a sharper edge from structured, squared shoulders to decisive cut-outs.
The contrast created a clear visual statement: softness does not exclude strength. Beneath feminine elegance lies a sense of resilience, reflecting the changing image of women in contemporary society.
