Vietnamese ethnic identity reimagined through Huong Beful’s brocade collection at GFW All Stars 2026

Must Read

As part of Day 2 of Global Fashion Week All Stars 2026, held on August 1 at the Vietnam Exposition Center (VEC) in Ha Noi, Vietnamese fashion brand Huong Beful unveiled its latest collection inspired by the cultures of Vietnam’s ethnic minority communities. Featuring handwoven brocade as its signature material, designer Huong Beful brought the enduring values of traditional weaving craftsmanship to the runway through contemporary silhouettes. The presentation added a distinctive cultural dimension to the second evening’s program, which brought together a diverse lineup of designers and fashion brands from Viet Nam and around the world.

Unique storytelling on Vietnam’s minority groups

Global Fashion Week All Stars 2026 took place from July 31 to August 2, bringing together designers, fashion brands, models, and distinguished guests from Viet Nam and around the world. During Day 2 of the event, Huong Beful unveiled a collection inspired by the cultures of Viet Nam’s ethnic communities, reinterpreting the beauty of traditional woven textiles through a contemporary design language.

According to designer Huong Beful, Viet Nam is home to 54 ethnic groups, each preserving its own unique cultural identity through traditional attire, weaving techniques, festivals, and community life. Every woven motif reflects stories of ancestry, nature, spiritual beliefs, and the aspirations of its people. The collection was created as a tribute to these communities and to the artisans who have preserved the craft of weaving across generations.

Rather than limiting traditional textiles to their customary forms, Huong Beful incorporated handwoven patterns into modern silhouettes that better suit contemporary lifestyles. In the designer’s view, fashion is not only about dressing beautifully but also about telling the stories of Vietnamese culture and its people.

Glamorous traditional performances

Day 2 of Global Fashion Week All Stars 2026 featured a diverse lineup of collections showcasing a wide range of creative styles. Amid this dynamic program, Huong Beful stood out with designs that combined traditional woven motifs with contemporary silhouettes, creating a distinctive identity on the runway.

The presentation brought together numerous models as well as titleholders from national and international beauty pageants. Among the standout participants were Minnie Minladar Aengmany, Miss Grand All Stars Laos 2026; Yuka Oyama, Miss Grand All Stars Japan 2026; Hoang Thuy An, First Runner-up of Miss Environment Viet Nam 2026; Dang Tran Que Tram, First Runner-up of Miss Culture Viet Nam 2026; Hoang Lan Chinh, The Charming Beauty Vietnam 2023; Phung Thi Thanh Hang, Runner-up of Miss Sea and Islands 2025; Hoang Thi Thanh Duoc, Runner-up of Miss Global Vietnamese Ao Dai Heritage; Duong Thi Khanh Linh, Runner-up of Miss Vietnamese Ao Dai Heritage; Tran Tien, Mister Idol Viet Nam 2024; Tran Dai An, Mister Inspiration (Mister Cultural Heritage 2026); along with many other models. Together, they showcased designs featuring a rich variety of colors and silhouettes, allowing the spirit of the collection to unfold seamlessly throughout the presentation.

A particularly meaningful aspect of the show was the inclusion of child actors and young models alongside male pageant winners, beauty queens, and professional models. Their presence enabled designer Huong Beful to fully convey the collection’s message: the beauty of Viet Nam’s cultural identity transcends age, while serving as a reminder to younger generations of the importance of preserving and celebrating Vietnamese heritage through the lens of fashion and art. As the presentation progressed, the models highlighted the collection’s diverse colors and silhouettes, reinforcing its narrative from beginning to end. Under the stage lighting, the intricate woven motifs and carefully crafted textile techniques were brought vividly to life, drawing attention to the unique character of each design. The fusion of traditional materials with modern garment construction allowed the collection to preserve the essence of Vietnamese culture while presenting it in a form well suited to the runway of an international fashion event.

Broadened opportunity for Vietnamese culture promotion

Beyond unveiling its latest collection, Global Fashion Week All Stars 2026 also served as a platform for designers, fashion brands, and models to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen ties with the fashion community in Viet Nam and abroad. According to Huong Beful, the event also provided a valuable opportunity to introduce the richness of Vietnamese culture through designs inspired by the nation’s heritage and traditional craftsmanship.

Following the event, the designer shared that she will continue developing collections inspired by the craft villages, cultural traditions, and heritage of Viet Nam’s ethnic communities, while participating in more cultural exchange programs and fashion weeks both domestically and internationally. The collection presented during Day 2 of Global Fashion Week All Stars 2026 further reflected the creative direction that Huong Beful has pursued for many years: reimagining traditional materials through a contemporary design approach, bringing more stories of Vietnamese culture to fashion runways around the world.
