Comedian Ade Edmondson and actress Lesley Sharp are set to join the cast of the UKTV detective drama Bergerac as filming begins on its second series. The reimagined 1980s-set show returns to Jersey, bringing fresh characters alongside familiar faces.
New Faces Bring Fresh Dynamics
Ade Edmondson will play Nigel, a new love interest for Charlie Hungerford, while Lesley Sharp takes on the role of Monica in the upcoming season. Their addition expands the cast, introducing new layers to the interpersonal relationships within the series.
Damien Molony reprises his role as Jim Bergerac, the titular detective who is starting to rebuild his life and tentatively exploring new romance. Bergerac meets Nicola, played by Camilla Beeput, but his professional life soon intervenes, pulling him into a new investigation before romance can fully blossom.
Honouring the Original While Creating Something New
Executive producer Brian Constantine expressed his excitement about the “fantastic calibre” of the new actors joining the show. He emphasized the production’s efforts to “honour but not copy” the original Bergerac series, aiming to bring a fresh take while respecting its roots.
“The new script is absolutely fantastic,” Constantine said. “There’s a lot of humour in there that adds to the character and charm of the show.”
Fans can expect to see “as many iconic Jersey locations as possible” featured throughout the season, ensuring the island’s unique atmosphere remains central. “There’s never enough Jersey,” Constantine added, highlighting the importance of setting in the show’s appeal.
